RESUMO

Objective: This paper explores the impact of media sentiment on stock prices on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Science and Technology Innovation Board (hereinafter the STAR market) from a behavioral finance perspective. Methods: We collect Baidu News coverage of STAR-listed firms as the text, and measure text sentiment using a machine learning-based text analysis technique. We then empirically examine the impact of media sentiment on STAR market stock prices from two aspects: IPO pricing efficiency and IPO first-day stock performance. Results: (1) Media sentiment has no significant impact on IPO pricing efficiency, thus suggesting that institutional investors participating in such offerings are generally not affected by media sentiment. (2) Optimistic media sentiment has a positive impact on IPO first-day returns, which indicates that individual investors are more easily influenced by media sentiment and therefore likely to abandon their rational judgment. (3) Media sentiment had a greater impact on IPO first-day returns during the COVID-19 pandemic than those before it, which suggests that individual investors are more influenced by media sentiment during pandemics. Discussion: Our findings deepen the understanding of stock price formation on the STAR market, which provide a statistical basis for formulating policy directions and investment strategies.

RESUMO

Exploring the intrinsic relationship between digital technology and the efficiency of food safety supervision contributes to a better understanding of the role of digital technology in food safety supervision and how to maximize its influence. This study employed sample data from 31 regions in China between 2015 and 2017 for an empirical analysis of the correlation between the two and to examine the moderating effects of the knowledge levels of food producers and consumers. The results show that the development of digital technology contributes to enhancing the efficiency of food safety supervision. In this process, the higher the knowledge level of consumers, the greater the positive promotional effect of digital technology. On the contrary, when the knowledge level of producers is higher, it is not conducive to enhancing the effect of digital technology on the efficiency of food safety supervision. The author holds the view that this is related to the fact that employees in the food production and manufacturing industry have insufficient moral and legal knowledge. This not only limits the effect of digital technology on enhancing the efficiency of food safety supervision, but also opens the door to illegal production for some unprincipled producers. The policy implications are that digital technology should be used to improve food safety supervision, the moral and legal knowledge of food producers should be improved, and consumers should be encouraged to use digital technology more in the pursuit of food safety. Implications for national healthcare system would be also discussed in our paper.

RESUMO

Sustainable development (SD) has increasingly played a key background role in government policymaking across the world, especially for the least developed countries in Africa. Therefore, the purpose of our research is to study the SD of African countries in public life, education, and welfare, and then to help policy makers better monitor the status of sustainable development and formulate development policies in these aspects. We firstly propose a new method to assess the SD in public life, education, and welfare. Then we assess the SD status in 51 African countries as well as other countries in the world. After that, we also make a comparison between African countries and the countries in other continents.

RESUMO

Food fraud not only exacerbates human public health risks but also threatens the business development of food and related industries. Therefore, how to curb food fraud effectively becomes a crucial issue for governments, industries, and consumers. Previous studies have demonstrated that enterprise food fraud is subject to joint influences of factor at various hierarchical levels within a complex system of stakeholders. To address enterprise food fraud, it is necessary to identify the key such factors and elucidate the functional mechanisms, as well as systematic analysis of the interrelationships among clusters and factors. Hence, we grounded on a social co-governance perspective and investigated the food fraud key influencing factors and their interrelationships in an emerging food market - China, by using the DEMATEL-based analytic network process (DANP). Results showed that the identified key cluster was government regulation, social governance, and detection techniques. Four other key factors were also identified, including government regulatory capability and penalty intensity, expected economic benefits, maturity of market reputation mechanism, and transparency of supply chain. Policy implications from the social co-governance perspective for China and similar economies are discussed finally.

RESUMO

This conceptual analysis critically discusses how service marketing is workable for online shopping platforms and how important service-related and influenced factors played their roles the aforementioned issue. The concepts of service, service marketing, and related factors were re-visited, or at least reflected, in the new context of online platforms. Mostly, we framed the essence and importance of those discussed factors from the psychological and behavioral angles. Implications for theory, practices, and policy-making were offered seriously.

RESUMO

Due to subjective evaluation and qualitative characteristics, the assessment processes of loyalty often cannot use the crisp value to express the final value. That makes the evaluation of online store performance usually filled with uncertainty and ambiguity. The loyalty assessment of electronic shopping is complex, and online stores' strategy and production control problems are frequently accompanied by uncertain conditions. This study constructs a conceptual model to leverage the fuzzy logic approach for understanding the consumers' decision-making in the e-service context of shopping. This study also exposes the relationships between system quality, information quality, and service quality to understand their impacts on customer loyalty. Implications and future research directions for service providers and researchers are discussed.

RESUMO

Childhood obesity is a crucial public health concern. In recent years, numerous studies have employed mobile health technology applications for weight control in children but obtaining varying effects. We conducted a meta-analysis to discuss the effectiveness of mobile health technology in reducing the body mass index (BMI) of obese children. The standardized mean difference (SMD) in BMI between the intervention and control groups was employed to measure the effect of mobile health technology intervention on weight control. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Version 3 software was employed for meta-analysis, and the results are presented in a forest plot. This study included nine randomized control trials, which featured a total of 1,202 participants. The meta-analysis revealed that mobile health technology intervention did not have a significant weight loss effect on subjects with obesity. However, by using ethnicity as a moderating variable for subgroup analysis, we discovered that the BMI of ethnic Chinese groups who received mobile health technology intervention was significantly lower than that of the control group. This effect was not significant in the non-ethnic Chinese subgroup. Therefore, the use of mobile health technology intervention for weight control in ethnic Chinese children resulted in significantly lower BMI in these children; however, the use of mobile health technology intervention for weight control is unsuitable for non-ethnic Chinese children.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought hunger to millions of people around the world. Social distancing measures coupled with national lockdowns have reduced work opportunities and the overall household incomes. Moreover, the disruption in agricultural production and supply routes is expected to continue into 2021, which may leave millions without access to food. Coincidentally, those who suffer the most are poor people. As such, food security and tourism poverty alleviation are interlinked when discussing social problems and development. While the corporate interest in tourism poverty alleviation is as old as the industrial revolution, little research has been conducted to show how social innovation can be leveraged to reinforce food security and alleviate poverty. Thus, this case study examines the food industry in rural China to establish how it conducts social innovation in food production and distribution to facilitate social development and mitigate poverty.

RESUMO

This study investigates the impacts of intellectual capital through Value-Added Intellectual Capital (VAIC) and its components: human capital efficiency (HCE) and structural capital efficiency (SCE) on financial performance in terms of return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). In addition, this study compares the effects between firms from financial and pharmaceutical industries. A total of 149 Vietnamese firms comprising of 108 financial firms and 41 pharmaceutical firms were examined. Based on the findings, VAIC and HCE show beneficial impacts on both financial performance measures, ROA, and ROE. However, SCE shows adverse and beneficial implications on ROA and ROE, respectively. In terms of industry comparison, VAIC has positive effects on ROA and ROE among the firms from financial industry, whereas it has no effect in the firms from pharmaceutical industry. The effect of HCE on ROA is stronger in the firms from financial industry than firms from pharmaceutical industry while the effect of HCE on ROE is stronger in the firms from pharmaceutical industry than firms from financial industry. The effect of SCE on ROA is stronger in the pharmaceutical firms than financial firms while the effect of SCE on ROE is stronger in the financial firms than pharmaceutical firms. Lastly, the implications of the importance of knowledge-based resources on value creation were elaborated.

RESUMO

Against the backdrop of economic internationalization and market globalization, the world has witnessed faster competitive contents with a more dynamic market environment, a more rapid technological innovation, and more diverse customer needs. Thus, for every enterprise especially led by entrepreneurs, the focus is to maintain the sustainability of competitive advantages and dynamically transform core capacity to avoid rigidity. This paper introduces the process of the deepened rigidity in WS Co. Company, which occurs due to the wrong cognition of Dr. S and his teams who managed or failed to respond to the rigidity encountered by the company during different periods. The rigidity of its capacity is believed to be caused by the cognitive errors of the entrepreneur and his team facing every period of potential rigidity, which makes them fail to deal with it (or choose the wrong methods), thus leading to complete rigidity. This paper intends to explain how rigidity takes shape from the cognitive aspect of senior managers, which may serve as illuminations for the similar enterprises led by entrepreneurs.

RESUMO

Monitoring progress toward green economy has been a key policy focus globally. The purpose of our study is to assess Asian countries' green development performance and also the progress toward green economy overtime. To achieve this goal, we propose a green development index (GDI) to assess the level and ranking of green development for Asian countries, and then we measure the progress toward green economy by the method based on the compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The result shows that the northeast Asian countries together with Singapore and Israel are leaders in green development performance across Asia, but the most progress toward green economy has been achieved by some medium green development level countries, like China. Countries with the fastest movement away from green economy are some laggard countries with poor green development performance, such as Syria and Yemen. More generally, the leading countries have reached a high green development level, and the medium ones move fast toward green economy, whereas some laggards get worse. We also discuss the implications for public health in environmental protection, green consumption, and green production.

RESUMO

This paper demonstrated the influences of initiation, development, turn-down, and reinitiation of the dynamic capability of an entrepreneurial firm in the solar energy industry. The focus is on the impact of entrepreneurial hubris, which may affect the decision of ambidexterity that can vitalize dynamic capability. The findings indicate that, when the major decision maker (the founder entrepreneur) has the trait of hubris, the decision-making process may be overly arbitrary, and a decision of being exploratory or exploitative alone is likely to be made. On the contrary, when the founder entrepreneur is aware of the hubris and shares decisive power, the decision of being ambidextrous as a dynamic capability is more freely achieved. This paper contributes by discovery of the cognitive-based microfoundation of entrepreneurial ventures and linkage of such microfoundation to organizational ambidexterity.

RESUMO

Automated diagnosis of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) from brain's functional imaging has gained more interest due to its high prevalence rates among children. While phenotypic information, such as age and gender, is known to be important in diagnosing ADHD and critically affects the representation derived from fMRI brain images, limited studies have integrated phenotypic information when learning discriminative embedding from brain imaging for such an automatic classification task. In this work, we propose to integrate age and gender attributes through attention mechanism that is jointly optimized when learning a brain connectivity embedding using convolutional variational autoencoder derived from resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data. Our proposed framework achieves a state-of-the-art average of 86.22% accuracy in ADHD vs. typical develop control (TDC) binary classification task evaluated across five public ADHD-200 competition datasets. Furthermore, our analysis points out that there are insufficient linked connections to the brain region of precuneus in the ADHD group.

RESUMO

The high turnover rate of new generation employees is becoming an increasingly important issue for business and academia. Based on self-determination theory and conservation of resource theory, our study explores the impact of the inclusive talent development model on the turnover intention of new generation employees and the mediating role of work passion. Based on the questionnaire of 290 new generation employees' data from China, after common method biases and reliability and validity tests, we used SPSS, Mplus and bootstrapping for empirical analysis. The result showed that the inclusive talent development model includes the diversified talent team construction, rational tolerance of employee's opinions and failures, emphasis on employee's training, emphasis on fairness and win-win and emphasis on employee's advantages. The work passion has been divided into harmonious passion and obsessive passion. Among them, rational tolerance of employee's opinions and failures, emphasis on employee's training and emphasis on fairness and win-win have a significant positive impact on harmonious passion. Emphasis on fairness and win-win and emphasis on employee's advantages have negative correlation with obsessive passion. The employee's harmonious passion is significantly negatively correlated with the turnover intention and the obsessive passion is significantly positively correlated with the turnover intention. In addition, the harmonious passion plays a mediating role between rational tolerance of employee's opinions and failures, emphasis on employee's training, emphasis on fairness and win-win and employee's turnover intention, while the obsessive passion plays a mediating role between emphasis on fairness and win-win and emphasis on employee's advantages and employee's turnover intention.

RESUMO

Recently, continuing outbreaks of avian influenza in China have not only caused great loss to the agricultural sector but also brought fear and distrust to consumers, seriously undermining consumer confidence in chicken products. We investigated consumers' purchase intentions during avian influenza outbreaks by examining a regionally representative sample of 330 consumers in Guangzhou. With respect to 7 kinds of attributes, the ordered logit analysis indicated that possible health threat and uncertainty of the origin of poultry products may cause concern among consumers and cause them to avoid purchasing chicken products. Media reports have a great influence on consumers' intentions to purchase chicken products during avian influenza outbreaks. Overall, this study suggests establishing an effective mechanism of public knowledge (of chicken products' safety and quality) enhancement, in order to curb misleading media reports during avian influenza outbreaks.
